Hi, my name is Gert Roelofs. I was born on 23-10-1973 at Ravenstein, The Netherlands.

I have been with Close Act for three years now as a percussion player. Some seasons I play a lot, other seasons a lot less. This depends on how many performances are booked which need percussion players.
I have played drums for twelve years now. Five years ago I started to learn to play percussion. This happened because I saw a great percussion group called “Les Percussions de Guinee” in a theatre in Oss. It inspired me to take djembe lessons. Mech Asselbergs, my djembe teacher, introduced me to the Doedelcompagnie,  www.compagniedoedel.nl  where I also play, and later to Close Act.

Performing in these groups gives me great pleasure. You can pretend to be someone else. You are what the creator has in mind and what the audience makes of it. It’s a fantastic world. People who watch Close-Act often get moved and overwhelmed by its beauty. Next to these groups I have a few projects in which I play the drums.

My profession is social worker in a shelter for homeless adolescents.
